Your Lady Tigers scored a valuable victory over conference rivals Fayetteville last night at home by a score of 1-0.
Both teams were looking to start conference play with a victory, and that desire showed through some enterprising attacking play. Senior Anna Passmore drew some strong saves from the Fayetteville keper from the right wing, and Junior Tyler-Ann Reash provided some dangerous chances from the middle, but neither were able to get that breakthrough goal.
Bentonville keeper Maddee East was the less busy of the two keepers, but was called into action a handful of times in the first half, and her defenders, Juniors Brianna Willis, Carrie Kotoucek, Taylor Muff and Megan Sattler did a good job of keeping the Fayetteville attackers at bay.
Midfielders Ginger Olson, Sydney Suggs, Madison Howard and Sara Roberts remained steadfast in keeping the attacking play in the Fayetteville end of the field, and in the second half that play delivered, when Ginger Olson fired home from close range to give Bentonville the lead.
In the last ten minutes of the game, Fayetteville threw caution to the wind by sending up an extra attacker, but chances remained at a premium, and it was Bentonville who threatened to double their lead, except for some fine saves from the Fayetteville keeper, who saved a penalty and tipped another shot onto the bar.
Bentonville held on to the lead and the victory, going 1-0 in conference play.
Earlier in the day, JV earned a 0-0 draw with Fayetteville JV. Your Tigers were able to keep Fayetteville without a shot on goal in the entire contest, and came close to scoring several times themselves, but the final ball just wouldn't end up in the net.
Both teams continue conference play tomorrow at home to Van Buren. Thanks to all the supporters who came out in force last night! #gotigers #tigerup
